The North West comes together to combat Youth Unemployment

The Skills North West event (held at Event City, Trafford Park) was a brilliant event aiming to educate young people on the different career prospects available to them in the North West. This was now my third event as a Social Media and Digital Marketing Apprentice.

It’s great to see a massive push in events such as The Skills North West, knowing that more young people are being educated in the different career paths that they can take once they finish School or College. It was really inspiring to see so many different organisations helping people to explore their potential career opportunities.

Many Training Providers & Employers were there, for example, Rate my Apprenticeship, Manchester United Foundation and Skills Solution attended this event, who all offered information or programmes to all the candidates that came along to the event. Some of the industries represented there were Construction, Hair & Beauty, Sports, Digital and Business Administration.

Skills North West run a number of events, initiatives and projects designed to connect and update young people on careers and opportunities in the North West.

The event was aimed at year 9 to 13 pupils who attend Schools and Colleges in the North West; these included Culcheth High School, Chorlton High School and Manchester College.

As we (The Apprentice Academy) provide a Social Media and Digital Marketing and Business Administration Apprenticeship in Manchester, we were also at the event, to help, advise and enable young people to starting their first step on their career ladder.

The activity we did was called ‘Have a go in the office’ which taught students about team work, working under pressure and prioritising tasks. This was a huge success as over 100 pupils took part in our activity.

Some other fun and informative activities I observed at The Career Aspiration event included DJ, rock climbing, puzzles and cooking activities. All of these activities were designed to help pupils realise which skills they would need for different career aspects.
