Procurement Level 5 Apprenticeship
Procurement / Project Manager (Level 4 & 5)
This programme is designed for individuals who have already achieved their CIPS Level 4 Diploma and want to continue their journey to become MCIPS qualified. It combines the project management apprenticeship with the CIPS Level 5 Advanced Diploma.
To meet the eligibility requirements of this apprenticeship, learners will need to be working within a project management environment, or within a position where they can be given ownership of specific elements of a project. Ideally learners will be responsible for a whole procurement lifecycle.
Learning will cover:
- All the tools and techniques to support robust project management.
- How to prepare a business case & align with business objectives.
- How to manage resources through the full procurement lifecycle.
- How to monitor procurement projects & report on performance.
- How to apply change control processes.
- How to manage costs & budgets.
- How to identify risks and manage issues.
- How to manage stakeholders and use communication tools.
- How to apply procurement legislation, regulation, and codes of practice.
- How to apply ethical procurement strategies & processes.
- How to manage quality & continuous improvement
CIPS Level 5 Advanced Diploma Modules will include:
- Managing Teams & Individuals (L5M1)
- Managing Supply Chain Risk (L5M2)
- Managing Contractual Risk (L5M3)
- Advanced Contract & Financial Management (L5M4)
- Managing Ethical Procurement & Supply (L5M5)
- Category Management (L5M6)
- Project & Change Management (L5M8)
- Advanced Negotiation (L5M15)
In addition, learners will have the opportunity to gain the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) and/or the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) if they wish, however this is not a mandatory component.

Costs and funding
Employers paying the apprenticeship levy can use their funds to pay for this programme.
Smaller organisations with an annual payroll bill of less than £3 million per year will need to contribute 5% towards the cost of the apprenticeship for employees aged 22 +. The government will cover 100% of the cost for employees aged 16-21. From 1st Aug 2026 the government will fund 100% of the cost for employees aged 16-24.
