Overview
With the introduction of Apprenticeship Units employers now have greater flexibility to use their apprenticeship funds for shorter, targeted courses. This long-awaited change allows businesses to address skills gaps right across their workforce with speed and agility.
These units are designed to make learning shorter, more accessible and responsive to the needs of both employers and employees.
Apprenticeship Units Overview:

| Units | Short flexible training courses that will incorporate knowledge and skills extracted from existing Apprenticeship Standards. | Enables employers to flexibly address specific skills gaps in a time efficient way |
| Duration of Learning | 30 to 140 delivery hours Can be delivered in 1 to 16 weeks | Rapid upskilling for employees who could not previously commit to longer training |
| Funded By | The Growth & Skills Levy | Apprenticeship units will be 100% funded for non-levy paying employers. Levy payers will use their levy funds or if fully utilised then the government will pay 95% of the cost. |
| Eligibility | Each apprenticeship unit will specify the eligibility requirements | |
| Assessment | Learners will need to pass a skills test, delivered by the training provider, to demonstrate they have acquired the skills and knowledge set out in the apprenticeship unit. Employers will need to validate the result to confirm the learner has been successful. | A well-designed practical skills test supports better long-term memory and recall of subject matter. |
| Who can deliver the training for Apprenticeship Units? | In phase 1 the government have restricted delivery to a finite number of training providers. The Apprentice Academy have been selected to deliver the AI Leadership Apprenticeship Units. | Long history of high success rates. |
| Progression to Apprenticeship | Where someone has taken an apprenticeship unit and progresses onto the linked apprenticeship, it will count as prior learning. All apprenticeships must still have a remaining duration of at least 8 months and comply with off-the-job training requirements | Supports deeper learning and continuous development |
