What have been the major benefits of employing apprentices?
Employer: Kirsty Leigh
I think that having apprentices come straight from school gives an employer a much easier job of training them. They don’t have any prior training so the transition from school to work is smoother as they come to us like a ‘blank slate’. This is beneficial to us as we can train them to how we would like them to be without having to dispel any previously learnt bad habits.
What have you worked on for the company that people wouldn’t believe apprentices do?
Apprentice: Ellie McFarlane
I started my apprenticeship here at Thornley Groves, I didn’t know how much responsibility and duties I would be given on a day to day basis, I think many people believe becoming an apprentice means you are going to be below everyone else within the business however this is completely wrong. I have been taken on like everyone else with the team.
I have been given tasks and duties which are of a high responsibility, such as making account payments, dealing with ordering brochures and making amendments, and many day to day office duties. Apprenticeships are a great way of getting your foot in the door to a professional business environment with the support and training provided to help you gain the qualification.
