What have been the major benefits of employing apprentices?

I think the major benefits have been seeing someone so young and totally inexperienced develop within a few months into a much valued member of the team. It’s quite remarkable watching and helping to develop their skills and seeing their confidence grow knowing that we’ve made a difference and that this young person can go on to be extremely successful in their career.

It’s a sense of achievement for all of us here. We’re certainly reaping the benefits now and the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve actually helped someone is hugely gratifying. Our apprentice is supervised and mentored by a former apprentice herself and I’ve also had the benefit of seeing her develop management skills over this time.

What have you worked on for the company that people wouldn’t believe apprentices do?

I have been entrusted with designing and implementing an audit of all personnel files in conjunction with the forthcoming CQC inspection, ensuring that all the files have relevant information and chasing up any missing information. On a daily basis, I am also the first point of contact for any job applicants – I am solely responsible for making sure all application forms are filled in properly and then replying to the applicants in order to keep them informed about the progress of their applications. In addition, I have also taken over all reception duties for visitors to the company headquarters.
