Apprenticeship FAQ’s

1. What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is a work-based placement where an employer will provide you with on the job training. As part of the Apprenticeship you work alongside experienced staff in the business to gain job specific skills. Whilst in the work place you also work towards an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) which is a work based qualification. Apprenticeships vary in length from 12 months to 4 years.

2. How many hours do I work?

As an apprentice you are only allowed to work up to 40 hours per week but most apprentices work between 35 hours and 37.5 hours per week. This would typically be between 9am and 5.30pm with a 1 hour lunch.

3.What do I get paid?

An apprentice salary starts from £3.50 per hour which is the minimum set by the government for the first year of employment. Employers set the wage and some pay much more than minimum.

4. How and when will I be paid?

You will be paid directly into your bank account on a weekly or monthly basis by your employer.

5. Am I entitled to any holidays?

Like any employee you are entitled to 20 days paid holiday annually. You accrue holiday entitlement as you work.

6. Will I receive any support during my Apprenticeship?

Absolutely! When you start your Apprenticeship with us you will be allocated your own career coach and mentor, who will support you throughout the programme.

7. How often will I be seen by my career coach?

Your career coach will visit you within the first 2 weeks of starting your Apprenticeship and then on a monthly basis after that.

8. What should I do if I am having any problems?

If you are struggling to complete your work simply talk to your career coach who will be more than willing to help you.

9. What happens when I complete my Apprenticeship?

On completion of your Apprenticeship you will have gained valuable experience in the workplace and up to two NVQ qualifications that will help you to progress in your chosen career.  With hard work and dedication there is also the possibility of being offered full time employment within your organisation where you can further your training and development!

10. How do I apply to be an apprentice?
